Who We Are

Mushroom Marauder is a small, family-run business that began its journey in 2021. Based near Portland, Oregon, we’re Adam and Suzi McCrae — a husband-and-wife duo who blend years of experience in foraging, fungi studies, culinary work, and visual design. Married for over a decade, we’ve spent countless days (and some very soggy hikes!) exploring nature with our two children.

Our Roots

This project was born from a deep, lifelong love of fungi. I (Adam) started foraging as a teenager on the Oregon coast and haven’t stopped since. A mycology course in my early twenties only deepened my obsession, and I’ve been out in the woods dozens of times each year ever since. Friends, family, and even casual acquaintances have all been invited to join — because mushrooms are meant to be shared!

Eventually, I wanted more than just the thrill of the hunt. I dove into the culinary world to bring mushrooms to the table, both figuratively and literally. Online mushroom ID forums became my go-to spaces, and spotting stray dried mushrooms around the house became a regular occurrence. Even then, I still felt there was more to explore.

How Mushroom Marauder Was Born

After nearly 20 years of admiring the brilliantly stained wood caused by the Chlorociboria fungus, I finally took home a branch of the blue-green wood — and that’s when things really started. In our garage workshop, I began crafting keychains and small art pieces using the naturally colored material. The response from fellow mushroom lovers was overwhelmingly positive.

Soon after, Suzi and I started collaborating on fungi-inspired illustrations. Her imaginative, playful art style combined with my deep fungal knowledge created a perfect partnership. From stickers to hand-printed tees, we’ve poured our hearts into every design. Today, large areas of our home are dedicated to art-making, and many evenings are spent brainstorming new ideas and improvements.
